Osmo Mobile 8P: Choose the Right Tracking Setup

Understand the tracking options before choosing a phone gimbal or adding a module.

Start With Your Phone and App

Before comparing bundles, write down which phone you use, the app you normally record with, and the subjects you want to follow. A setup for talking to the camera may be different from one for filming pets. Treat compatibility as part of the buying decision, not a task to leave until the equipment arrives.

Separate the Tracking Options

DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 supports tracking people, cats, dogs, vehicles and general objects. ActiveTrack 8.0 is a separate DJI Mimo feature; DJI currently limits it to selected iPhone models. These names should not be treated as a promise that every phone and app offers the same tracking experience.

Check What the Bundle Includes

The Standard Combo does not include Multifunctional Module 2. If module-based tracking is important to you, check the selected bundle contents before ordering. Avoid adding a second module automatically if it is already included in the package you choose.

Plan for Real Shooting Conditions

For general objects, Module 2 requires manual box selection, a clear outline, strong background contrast and a subject occupying at least 10% of the frame. Similar-looking subjects and strongly colored lighting can affect tracking continuity. For your first test, use a simple background and keep the intended subject clearly visible.

Try Your Usual Recording Routine

Test the app and orientation you actually use. Record a short walk, a stationary introduction and a gentle change of direction, then review the framing. If the result is inconsistent, simplify the scene and confirm compatibility before adding accessories. A suitable setup is one that works reliably for your routine, not merely the one with the longest feature list.
